Exposition (The Situation) — A Broken System
Imagine this:
You have a pile of old metal, newspapers, and electronics lying around. You want to sell it, but the process is frustrating.
1) You don't know when the scrap collector will come.
2) If they arrive, you might not be home
3) Even if you manage to meet them, how do you know that you are getting a fair price?
For thousands of people, selling scrap felt like a game of chance—unpredictable, inconvenient, and untrustworthy.
This was the challenge I set out to solve: Turning a chaotic, inefficient system into a transparent, reliable, and scalable platform.

The Initial Attempt: A Step in the Right Direction, But Not Enough
A local scrap shop owner, along with their team, built the first version of the app to digitize scrap pickup. While it addressed some challenges, users still faced major issues.

Once I book a pickup, I have no clue when the scrap collector will arrive. A real-time tracking feature would make this app much more reliable. Right now, I just have to wait and hope they show up.

There’s no way to find nearby scrap dealers

The app is useful, but I always feel like I’m getting a lower price than I should. There’s no way to compare rates. It would be great if the pricing was more transparent!

I tried to use the app to sell some old electronics, but the pickup scheduling feature was confusing. I ended up giving up024

I booked a pickup, but I had no way to call or chat with the collector. What if they’re lost or I need to reschedule?

Where It Fell Short: Critical Flaws of the Initial Version
Before diving into the redesign, I analyzed user complaints, Play Store feedback, and support tickets to quantify the core issues users faced with the initial version. The findings were eye-opening

Finding the Real Problem: It Wasn’t Just Logistics
When I joined the project, I didn’t just redesign the UI—I needed to rethink the experience from the ground up. The app had potential, but it wasn’t truly solving user pain points.
To uncover why users weren’t engaging, I conducted user interviews, secondary research, and competitive analysis.
